starts with Bai Qian's last days as mortal, which is pretty confusing. When she accidentally meets Yeh Hua again, it gets even more confusing, as in her he recognizes his beloved Su Su and his son keeps calling Bai Qian mother.... So, not only they already have a son, Bai Qian is supposed to marry Yeh Hua despite being twice his age, ad she doesn't remember him at all. So he has to woo her all over again. There are other plot threads. Bai Qian's past is slowly revealed, her
dedication to her Master, her enemies and past love stories, her friends and family who try to support her. There is a lot going on. But the sweetest part is Bai Qian's and Yeh Hua interactions. She is clueless and slowly falls in love all over again, and he is tortured by his fear that she will remember how he wronged her. I read it with my heart in my throat from time to time, and the ending while satisfying was too short, and damn I wanted more! To The Sky Kingdom might not be for

I wish I could support it, but like others said it was plagiarized. This issue is well-known in China, she copied the book from another writer but the only difference was the other author's book was based on homosexuality. Therefore China doesn't support gay love and it's hard for the other author to go against Tang Qi. She has already reaped enough benefits off of this story, and she even had it produced into a drama. I heard she even sent the other author a copy of her book! I enjoyed the stor I wish I could support it, but like others said it was plagiarized. Because this book is a translated work, I will just focus on the translation. I’ve got three words: “Lost in Translation.” The English title alone, “To the Sky Kingdom,” is already an indication how the
translator, Poppy Toland, does not stay faithful to the original Chinese text, which is titled “Three Lives, Three Worlds, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms.” Book titles should give us a glimpse into what is central to the story. Hence, the title “To the Sky Kingdom” really misleads the reader. When a I’ve got three words: “Lost in Translation.” The English title

Yes, this title just does not fit! Toland should have kept the original title. But if her editor or publisher thinks that is too long, they can at least shorten it to “Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms.” The peach grove plays an important role in the story because
this is the place where: 1) BaiQian grew up. In short the “Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms” grove is the beating heart, life blood of the story, and symbolizes fate, love, sanctuary, and rebirth/new beginnings. Another reason
why this book is lost in translation is Toland’s habit to literally translate some character’s names into English. For example “Green Sleeves”, “Mystic Gorge”, “Phoenix Nine”, and “Rouge” are some minor characters whose meaningful Chinese names are reduced to silly English caricatures. One rule in translation: Names should NEVER be translated. Seriously, if a person attempts to translate my Chinese name word for word into English, he/she will come up with “Horse Grass Joyful” in that order. Now
isn’t that silly? And for the record, that is NOT what my name means. I really do not understand why Toland turned these names into English while she kept other characters’ names in their Chinese pinyin form? She lacks consistency here. Speaking about lacking consistency, Toland was not consistent when it comes to BaiQian’s son, Ali’s, nickname either. She alternates between “Little Sticky-Rice Dumpling” to just “Dumpling.” Another issue I have with Toland’s translation is that she
did not keep to the original Chinese text when it comes to style. This story is set in ancient times and should be written in a more formal, elegant style, but her word choices and sentences are devoid of any elegance. I find that her translation lacks the delicate, proverb-rich Chinese writing style. Toland’s choice to westernize the dialogues really cheapens the writing. For example, the following sentences really made me cringe because the original Chinese text never uses such words:
“That son of a bitch has gotten off far too lightly”(p.26) Every time I come across sentences like this, I feel like I am reading an American contemporary novel. It feels so out of place here....these dialogues....the magic and mood of the original story is lost. Rather
than “son of a bitch”, I would reword it to “fool.” Therefore all I can give is two stars to Toland for the effort. ...more
The drama is way better than the book - the author never bothers with detailed descriptions of places to set the fantasy and historical scene and just rushes through with bare minimum of dialogue and plotlines. It severely hampered my enjoyment since I had to rely heavily on my memory of the drama to picture everything better. Lots of information that is specific to chinese culture and history is lost
on western readers too, so that doesn't help. The drama version enchants you with amazing scene The drama version enchants you with amazing scenery and costumes, expands the plotlines that are only briefly mentioned here, and gives us additional romantic couples. Still not exactly happy with the ending; it feels so rushed. I'd definitely go for the drama to enjoy the story, but there's also a movie version coming soon, so that may be a better fit for people with less time on their hands
(the drama has 58 episodes, FYI). There's also plagiarism allegations to consider, which I've seen mentioned many times. I'm not a fan of that in any case or form, but let's remember that China is the world capitol of counterfeit articles, so it only follows that they aren't exactly fighting for intellectual/authorship rights. I've only read the book to see what inspired the drama - hats down to the scriptwriters for doing an excellent job and even patching up the original's numerous
flaws. The book drops so many interesting plotlines and never mentions characters again after they've outlived their usefulness... which speaks volumes about the writing skills of the writer. The translations seem clumsy at times - sometimes translating the names of people or places, sometimes not. Not really worth reading if you're not a fan of the drama.

If it's true then the author of 3L3W really did well in copying (although I haven't read the "original" piece yet). I loved seeing Tang's interpretation of the Heavenly Kingdom, and how she weaves in different elements of classical mythology. I loved all the characters, particularly the two main ones, Bai Qian and Ye

The summary of the book was better I have never been more annoyed at a main character since Twilight. Bai Qian is a goddess of numerous years, and while she says she's a kind and magnanimous goddess, she's
not. She's beautiful but thoughtless, unthinking and unkind. Men fall in love with her and I can't see why. In her mortal life, maybe she was loveable, but the story doesn't say. The story is too showy in parts and then too anticlimactic in others. The story itself reaches towards a feeling of I have never been more annoyed at a main character since Twilight. Bai Qian is a goddess of

Interesting story of the intertwined fates of mortals and gods. I read the translated version so a few parts didn’t quite make sense to me. I was intrigued by the plot but confused by the jumps made between the past and the present. I also took issue with the abrupt ending. It felt incredibly rushed but overall, I enjoyed reading this one. Recommended for fans of romance.

Ok...first let us talk about the white elephant in the room....the rumors of plagiarism. I call them rumors because I could find no record of legal cases on this. I did find web sites from fans that show similarities between this and the book it supposedly plagiarized, but I was unable to conclude any thing from those web sites except that common names and themes were used in both books. Let me explain why

Entries in Wikipedia will have lists of works that common folklore characters appear and I have always been surprised by this list and the different names many common characters take over many works. But, without a court of law or some other independent body recognizing the plagiarism such as in the case of Nora Roberts/Janet Dailey, I am left needing
the other book to confirm for my own self if there is enough to keep me from not buying this book. Since this is the only book that is available in my market as I am unable to purchase the other book, then I am going to read this as if the plagiarism rumor does not exist. This book could have been an epic telling of true love that transcends all realms. But as a plagiarized work, I found that it was an awful lazy attempt at calling it a complete work. Told
completely from Bai Qian's point of view was a complete rip off to the reader. I think the original author with time could have honed this piece into a classic that would transcend generations. But the rip off artist, robbed them of that opportunity and took an epic story and lazily turned out this tripe. That i That is a shame.
