AMC COMPETITION UPDATES

NEW: AMC SYSTEM ANNOUNCEMENT

As we continue to work diligently behind the scenes to improve your AMC experience, we have some EXCITING NEWS! MAA AMC is launching a new competition administration platform, which will host paper and digital formats of the competitions on a competition manager (CM) portal. CMs can conveniently administer the digital competition to students or print the paper competition with answer sheets and scan them back. More information on the update can be found here.

AMC IMPROVEMENTS:

• Eliminates the need to ship or deliver packages 

• Provides score faster than ever

• Gives direct access to student scores and cumulative data

• Eliminates Certification Forms and other paperwork​

REGISTRATION OPENS SEPT 6:

• Register and process payment on amc-reg.maa.org, following the same process as in past cycles.

• In mid-September, details will be shared on how to register on the competition manager portal and administer the competition in your classrooms.

PROCTORING UPDATE:

The MAA AMC is a school-based competition program hosted by public and private educational institutions. The competitions program has always required competition managers to be affiliated with a physical location. During the last two cycles, we temporarily allowed remote proctoring solely in response to school buildings closing for COVID-19. Starting with the 2022-23 cycle, the AMC will return to its original in-person format. We encourage competition managers to create a contingency plan for alternate locations outlined in our policies.We will continue to monitor the situation and provide any updates as needed.

DEADLINE EXTENDED: Nominations Open for the Edyth May Sliffe Awards

The Edyth May Sliffe Awards for Distinguished Mathematics Teaching in Middle School and High School are given annually to middle and high school mathematics teachers who have done outstanding work to motivate students in mathematics through participation in one of the MAA American Mathematics Competitions. This prestigious award is accompanied by a $500 stipend and recognition on the MAA website and social media. Award recipients also receive complimentary registration, housing, and travel expenses to MAA MathFest in Tampa, FL, from August 2 - 5, 2023. 

Eligibility: Nominees may include any teacher who has administered the competitions, mentored students, or encouraged students to participate in AMC, but all nominees must be middle or high school teachers in either a public or private school. Teachers may apply on behalf of themselves or nominate a colleague.

Application: Please fill out the Edyth May Sliffe Nomination Form by August 31, 2022. Each nominee must have two letters of recommendation, one of which may be from the nominee. In place of two letters, we will also accept a single letter of recommendation written on behalf of the nominee signed by at least two individuals, neither of whom is the nominee. The nominee’s colleague, supervisor, or community member may submit the letters to reflect how the nominee encourages, supports, and maintains their students’ enthusiasm for mathematics through the AMC.

2022 USA(J)MO Results

Congratulations to all 2022 USA(J)MO participants!

New USA(J)MO Awards! For the USAMO, the AMC will award Gold prizes to at least approximately 6%, Silver to at least approximately 12%, and Bronze to at least approximately 18% of competitors. For the USAJMO, we will continue to name winners but will increase recognition to at least 20% of contestants. For both USAMO and USAJMO, each additional contestant with 14 points or more will receive an Honorable Mention distinction.  Each year exact percentages and number of awards will be decided by the Student Selection Committee.
