The description talks about using S/PDIF Out... On the sound card that I received, that port is nothing..just a screw. S/PDIF In is there, but not Out. Why? What did I miss here? I took a picture to show everyone. If you want to output using Fiber Optic cable, STAY AWAY FROM THIS. Spend a little extra and get a proper sound card for $50. Maybe less if you're savvy. This will just waste your time.Also, the installation came on a weird mini CD from 2002 so if you are running a system without a disc reader you most definitely need to stay away.

I got this to use my 5.1 speakers on a mini PC running Ubuntu. I plugged everything in, powered the computer on, it worked, that's it. (The little disc I assume contains Win drivers is cute, though!) I rated sound quality considering the cost; it's obviously not high-end, but if you were an audiophile, you wouldn't even be looking at this, and to me, it sounds just fine. For 18 bucks, it sounds *great*.

I bought this because my PC doesn't have an S/PDIF port, and I needed one to use my PC audio through my surround sound system. The product came on time, and looks nice. The audio quality seems okay so far.
The only problem I had was the drivers. They come on a mini-CD, but thankfully I have a disk drive on my PC because it's pretty old. I was able to copy the files from the disk, which include folders for the drivers for Windows 10, 8, and
previous. The sound control software it comes with is a little clunky, but has some pretty nice features.
The only reason I give this product a three star review, is because it won't detect that the S/PDIF port has a cable in it. The only way I was able to get it to work was to use the Xear Audio Center program that comes with it.
It starts out with only the speakers enabled, so I had to right click on the Speaker icon, click Speaker Settings, then click the list box on that screen, and
set it to SPDIF Out. It still doesn't detect that there are multiple channels available for use, so i can't customize the volume for each speaker, but the surround sound does work.
Perhaps it is user error, and I just didn't install the drivers correctly. I don't think incorrectly installing them is entirely my fault, because the drivers aren't easy to find. There are tons of folders in the files on the disk, and I can't seem to find the ones I'd need to install for the S/PDIF Out.
Furthermore, in the windows device manager, it doesn't show the device, so I couldn't install the drivers for it if I found them.
If anyone has some advice to offer to correct this, I'd love to listen. My back speakers in my surround setup are meant to be much closer than I can put them, so they're pretty quiet, and I'd like to increase the volume of them.
Again, this product is great and fixes my problems, but I'd love to have the full functionality.

I just needed this to output in 5.1 from my computer to my speakers and this works just fine for that purpose.

Purchase this for my Legion 7 laptop to use my Logitech 5.1 PC surround sound speakers. I went from a desktop to laptop so I lost the front, rear, and center/sub sound connections. This will fix that problem and works great. Windows 10 will install the drivers automatically. You don't need the cd that comes with it. You do have to go into "sound control panel" and set up the 5.1 surround sound. Yes, it sounds just as good as the motherboard sound chip. So far I am very happy with the product and recommend it. It has a metal shell and seems to made good. I believe a lot of the negative reviews come from not knowing how to set it up the sound control panel.

I needed a 5.1 Soundcard to breath new life into a basement machine. I had my old Logitech x530 speaker set from College collecting dust in the closet upstairs and decided to mount hooks in the basement and upscale my music with Kodi to get an atrium like atmosphere for my workouts. This thing delivered. My system is an old Shuttlebox with Windows 10 installed. Plug and play. Windows 10 grabbed a driver and I used the Windows 10 built in sound Manager to choose 5.1. It is so compact, it just rests on the Shuttlebox and you can barely even tell it is a separate unit. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to use a 5.1 setup with a laptop or older 2.1 system.

Honestly, I didn’t have many expectations for this device due to its cost & overall review rating. I had acquired a 5.1 surround sound system that I wanted to use with my MacBook Pro & this was a low-cost solution to that. Not only has it worked well for that but it’s also given me added MIDI functionality to my computer, all without having to install any drivers whatsoever. You’re not going to be making professional level content with this device but it will expand the audio capability of your laptop at a really low cost.

SPDIF Out doesn't work and, if it did, it would send stereo signal and not surround. I am returning this.
I installed the software from the little CD with the drivers. The installation went through without a problem.
(Image 1) This image shows the icon with the Red "P" letter, which is the icon for the sound card.
(Image 2) If you double-click on the icon from (image
1) , the control panel will show up. The SPDIF Out option is inaccessible.
(Image 3) Scrolling to the bottom of the control panel I can see that the SPDIF In is available but I don't care about this option.
(Image 4 ) We can see from this image that the sound card offers 5.1 surround but only if you connect through the 3.5mm plugs.
(Image 5) The final image shows that the SPDIF option is unavailable but, if it did, it would only provide 2 channel stereo signal.
CONCLUSION:
The
SPDIF Out doesn't work but, even if it did, the signal pushed through this connection would be only a 2 channel stereo signal. When I got this 5.1 Surround Sound device, I expected that the output would always be a Surround Sound signal.
What a waste of time! I am returning this item.

The various Windows 10, and Dell updates removed the popup menu that would let me decide the behaviors of the connections into the audio jack. Result: I was stuck with Mic In, or Audio Out, but no more Line In option.
After lots of efforts in fixing Sound Driver issues, I decided to order this USB sound card, as it was written in some comments that the Line In was Stereo. That is not true, it is MONO, not Stereo.
While waiting for my USB audio card, I did fix the Sound drivers, and can once again use my build-in sound card to do what I wanted to do from the start: digitize some of my rare vinyl albums. Result: nice stereo recordings (in case some readers imagined that I used a mono wire with my USB sound card).
I plan on returning
this thing, as I do not wish to downgrade my stereo vinyls to mono.
I'll use the audio jack of the laptop, that does a better job than this thing.
I understand that it was designed for 5.1 experience, but my only use would have been Line In Stereo.
To prove the problem, I recorded the 10 first seconds of Pink Floyd's Money (as the sounds at the start of the song are all left, and all right). The first picture shows that this USB sound card records in MONO: Line (USB Sound Device)). All settings are in stereo, but not the recording.
The second picture is the same recording, but this time, using the built in audio card: Line In (Realtek(R) Audio).

El paquete llegó en perfectas condiciones, e instalarlo es sencillo, aparte de buscar un CD Drive para sacar el driver. Una vez instalado, se tiene que habilitar la opcion de 5.1 en las propiedades del dispositivo de audio (al menos en Windows 10), aun despues de haber instalado los drivers. De ahi en fuera funciona todo bien, probé el Line In en Audacity y se graba bien. Una cosa mencionada es que el SPDIF-OUT es solamente un tornillo, y esto es correcto, no parece tener esa salida, pero al no ocuparla no puedo dar mas detalle. Por el precio es una muy buena opción.

I can say is that it is NOT a screw (but sure, the SPDIF optical outs do look like one LOL) and works if you use the correct driver.
The chip used on the device is the Cmedia CM6206-LX. A quick Googling will take you to a website that provides the Win-8 drivers and chipset datasheet.
On driver install....a red light is shown from the SPDIF Output (see photo).....and I am very sure screws can't do this! Lol.
Product works fine. Unfortunately some people need more help in getting it going, so the seller could help a bit more I suppose (minus 1-Star).

Trae los controladores en un CD, no es "conectar y usar", (plug & play) pues hay que instalar los controladores manualmente, pero luego trabaja muy bien.

Mini phone plugs are to close from one to another. I’m earring noise on the back speakers now. Its been 3 months only bit i’m not surprise since there is not enough room to plug all 3 cable so close. Its pushing the limit too far.
